Become an EV Diagnostic Engineer

You can complete practical electric vehicle engineering training with AECS or you can combine AECS training with MITO’s eLearning and complete theory elements at your own pace for a Level 5 NZQA qualification.  Use the above tabs to choose your path. 

On the completion of EV engineering training you will learn the following and more:

• Cooling and heating systems, levitating coolant pump diagnostics.
  
• Variable resistor circuits, inductive and
  hall sensor circuits, solenoid valve and relay circuits, temperature
  sensor circuits, transistors and ignition module circuits.
• Individual battery construction and chemistry, the mechanical construction and the battery insides. 
• Individual anodes, cathodes and separator diagnostics and understanding. 
• Commonly found problems inside the individual Li-ion batteries. 
• Simple chemistry about rechargeable batteries (this will change the way you look at any battery).
• SEI, admittance and capacity.
• HV battery Cell matching and equalising, diagnostics and repair.

Learn with MITO and AECS and receive an NZQA recognised qualification in New Zealand Certificate in electrical vehicle automotive engineering.  Practical and hands-on training is undertaken by AECS combined with MITO’s eLearning to complete theory elements at your own pace for an NZQA qualification.  

You will learn the following.

• Oversee team responsibilities and ensure compliance with legislative and company requirements to maintain a safe and effective workplace.
• Diagnose and repair uncommon and complex specialist system faults in light electric vehicles as an advanced technician including: 
• Demonstrate knowledge of hybrid electric and battery electric vehicle systems and safety
• Depower and reinitialise light electric vehicles
• Diagnose and repair traction motor system faults
• Diagnose faults and replace an auxiliary starting motor 
• Diagnose and repair safety interlock system faults
• Diagnose and repair cooling system faults
• Diagnose and repair DC to DC system faults

Entry Requirements:
Learners entering this programme must have completed an Automotive Engineering qualification at Level 4, or provide evidence of equivalent skills and knowledge. If you’re currently employed in the industry and your employer is able to support you, contact MITO today to get qualified.
