Safety First
In this training, we start with safety in mind for you and those that work around you. You’ll learn about high voltage and why it is dangerous, and what voltages are safe to work with and touch, including what distance you need to be from live HV connections.
We will further your knowledge with an overview of the hybrid system, which will include the HV battery, inverter, 12V system and will be foundational to explain the role of SMRs is with regards to safety and jump-starting.
High Voltage
We will give you an overview of what voltages are present in the battery, inverter and 3 phase motors, including important safety information on capacitors as this will vary across vehicles.
The high voltage battery contains many components, we’ll show you through an overview of the layout and components, this includes, system relays, rush sensor, temperature sensors and others.
We will have an actual inverter and live battery pack in the training, we will take this apart to see the included components. We will teach you how to measure components with correctly rated equipment.
Safety Expectations
We will show you why a hybrid or an electric vehicle should not be towed and what can possibly happen. If the above is true, should you push a hybrid/EV vehicle around a workshop or conduct a rolling brake test? We answer these questions in full.
It is important to make sure that an HV system and accompanying components are safe to work on, we’ll share with you safety information on how to make the system safe. Also, we’ll show you why removing the safety switch does not make the actual systems safe.
Throughout the training, you will use and learn the specific safety inspection tools and equipment for working on hybrid/EV vehicles.
